I studied environmental science at University College Cork and spent years thinking about water quality and the systems that bring it to us. Like most people, I assumed water safe enough to drink was water safe enough to wash in. Those are not the same standard, and once you start looking, that becomes obvious.
The moment I really started questioning Irish shower water was when it clicked with me in a lecture that my water was why my skin was so dry/itchy after showering, why I kept breaking out and why my hair was lifeless.
So I started testing - looking at what's in Irish shower water, and at what the filters on the market really removed. Most of what I found in both cases was frustrating.
